Actions of reductive groups -- Bart Van Steirteghem, February 25, 2011
This will be the first meeting of the study group. This semester, we will study Geometric Invariant Theory, and variation of quotients in particular. Time permitting, we will also look at some applications of GIT to representation theory. In this first meeting, we will begin by planning the rest of the semester. Then I’ll discuss some basic facts about actions of complex reductive groups on algebraic varieties, following these lecture notes by Michel Brion.
